New sketches 03/28/10

Whew, it's been 10 days since my last post. Much too long. Not to say I haven't been drawing, just not with any regularity. Yesterday I bought a Staedtler lead holder, and I'm in love. I can't say enough good about the quality of the lead in this pencil. Good stuff. Anyhow, here's some of the work I've done the last week and a half. There's other stuff but it didn't scan well, or just plain sucked.

First off I've got some reference sketches for the human form while surfing. Someone had wanted me to draw the Silver Surfer but I'm not anywhere near experienced enough to draw him well yet. Particularly the chrome shading around his body.

This next drawing is some work I did with my new lead holder. I downloaded a bunch of art books online, and I've been working on conveying facial expressions. This is some work on drawing the eye more effectively.

Last up is a sketch of Felix the Cat that Jackki requested. Shading him was a bitch and I should've switched a softer lead to get smoother strokes. Ah well. I'm pretty happy with how the drawing came out, not crazy with how it scanned though.
